Marvin R. Wilson

Dr. Marvin R. Wilson is the Harold J. Ockenga Professor of Biblical and Theological Studies at Gordon College in Wenham, MA. He holds a B.A. from Wheaton College (IL), an M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Brandeis University in the field of Semitics and Mediterranean Studies. His teaching specialty at Gordon College is Old Testament, Jewish Studies, and the Hebraic origins of Christianity.

Professor Wilson's teaching career spans more than four decades, commencing as a graduate teaching fellow of biblical languages. He has chaired the Department of Biblical Studies of Barrington College (RI) as well as the Department of Biblical Studies at Gordon College, where in 1979 he was appointed to his current Professorship, named in honor of Gordon's former president.

An active writer, Dr. Wilson has authored or edited nine books. His widely used textbook, Our Father Abraham: Jewish Roots of the Christian Faith, was singled out by Christian Century magazine as an all time best seller in the field of religion. Pew Charitable Trusts of Philadelphia supported him in the making of a TV documentary based on Our Father Abraham. Released in 2001 under the title, Jews & Christians: A Journey of Faith, the two-hour documentary was shot in Israel and throughout the U.S.A, and is a co-production of Connecticut Public Television and Auteur Productions, Ltd. of Maryland. As a companion piece to this production, Dr. Wilson authored a detailed Study Guide to assist churches, synagogues, and interfaith groups in its educational use and discussion.
