
Charles B. Knapp Ph.D.
Charles B. Knapp is an economist and educator. Dr. Knapp is the Director of Educational Development for the CF Foundation and the Chairman of the Board of the East Lake Community Foundation. He also serves as a Professor of Economics, Distinguished Public Service Fellow, and President Emeritus of the University of Georgia. Dr. Knapp was the President of the University of Georgia from 1987 to 1997. He was President of the Aspen Institute from 1997 to 1999, and from 2000 to 2004 was a Partner with the executive search firm Heidrick and Struggles. Earlier in his career, Dr. Knapp served as the Executive Vice President of Tulane University and was the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Labor for Employment and Training during the Carter Administration. He was a member of the faculty at the University of Texas at Austin from 1972 to 1977. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of AFLAC, Inc. and the National Center on Education and the Economy, and the Board of Trustees of Oglethorpe University. He received his B.S. degree, with honors and distinction, from Iowa State University and his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
